  2. README FILE FOR WINLOGO
  3. -----------------------

  5. WINLOGO is a program for Windows 3.x which allows users to
  6. change the Windows startup logo by a simple menu selection.
  7. It thus makes it easy to customise Windows by substituting
  8. company logos, funny pictures, etc., for the default VGA
  9. logo that comes with Windows itself.
  10.  
  11. INSTALLATION
  12. ------------
  13. To install WINLOGO, you need to run the supplied installation
  14. routine, "INSTALL.EXE". The program files are in a compressed
  15. format and cannot be run at all until the installation routine
  16. is run. The compressed file "WINLOGO.C0_" contains;
  17.    [a] the executable "WINLOGO.EXE",
  18.    [b] the INI file   "WINLOGO.INI",
  19.    [c] the DOC file   "WINLOGO.DOC",
  20.    [d] the HELP file  "WINLOGO.HLP", and
  21.    [e] "RLES.EXE" -    self-extracting compressed file
  22.        containing some sample 3rd party RLE bitmaps files. To
  23.        extract these files, just type "RLES" and press <ENTER>.
  24.        Note that you need at least 408k of free disk space for
  25.        these RLE bitmaps.

  28. To run the installation, you need to select "File", and then
  29. "Run" from the Program Manager. When prompted for the program
  30. to run, type "A:INSTALL" or "B:INSTALL", depending on which
  31. drive you are installing from.

  33. If you want the installation program to create a Program Manager
  34. group for you, then you need to click click on the box labeled
  35. "Create Program Manager Item" BEFORE selecting "Start Install".
  36. You may need to edit the WINLOGO.INI file after the installation.

  38. You need at least 510k free space on your hard disk for a full
  39. installation of WINLOGO. About 408k of this is taken up by the
  40. sample RLE bitmaps, which have to be de-compressed separately.
  41. If you choose not to de-compress the bitmaps then you will only
  42. need 230k for the installation (this includes the compressed
  43. bitmaps.

  45. After the program files are installed, you need
  46. to;
  47.   [1] Edit the file WINLOGO.INI if you have installed the
  48.       program into a directory other than C:\WINLOGO. You
  49.       need to supply the name of the WINLOGO directory on
  50.       the RLE-DIRECTORY line. This is where WINLOGO will
  51.       look for the RLE bitmaps to use. Otherwise, it will
  52.       default to your Windows System directory.
  53.  
  54.  [2]  If you have a display type which is not VGA or SVGA
  55.       (or compatible), edit the VIDEO-TYPE line in the
  56.       file WINLOGO.INI to supply your video display type.
  57.       If this line is left empty, WINLOGO attempts to detect
  58.       the type of Windows Screen Driver that you have installed.
  59.       However, this auto-detection is not fool proof.
